No surprises this Valentine’s week: ODT website visitors expressed their affection for American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting news. The top traffic drivers came courtesy of Top Company stalwarts Smith+Nephew and Stryker, both of which premiered various products at the four-day show. Smith+Nephew unveiled its newly acquired CartiHeal Agili-C cartilage repair implant, along with the Regeneten bioinductive implant; the two technologies, according to the company, are transforming the ways in which clinicians treat soft tissue repair, and help improve outcomes compared to the standard of care. Stryker, meanwhile, introduced its Triathlon Hinge and continued evolution of Mako SmartRobotics. The Triathlon Hinge is the latest addition in care for revision patients, particularly for complex cases involving bone loss or soft tissue challenges in knee replacements. The Triathlon revision baseplate has multiple intraoperative and post-operative revision knee implant options. The Hinge system reduces the procedural steps of a Triathlon revision-to-hinge conversion during surgery with streamlined workflow and simplified instrumentation, according to the company. Stryker also highlighted a solution to reduce intraoperative fluoroscopy in direct anterior procedures for total hip arthroplasty. An overview of the organization’s annual meeting caught quite a few eyes, as did Zeda’s acquisition of The Orthopaedic Implant Company (OIC), a pioneer in delivering high-quality, cost-effective orthopedic devices. Zeda said the acquisition enables the company to produce OIC’s implant designs, accelerating its mission to offer accessible, high-value trauma implants to patients worldwide. Under the acquisition deal’s terms, OIC will operate as a Zeda Health company. A discussion of orthopedic device packaging and sterilization also proved popular with cybervisitors this past week. Nearly a half-dozen industry experts addressed the issues currently impacting the industry, including Europe’s new Medical Device Regulation, single vs. dual barrier packaing, and environmental sustainability.
